Global Postpartum

Worldwide, postpartum hemorrhage, the loss of more than 500mL of blood after delivery, is the leading cause of maternal morbidity affecting 6% of the population at large.

Africa alone, has the highest rate at 10.5%. In especially remote areas where blood supplies are low or non-existent, early detection is essential in preventing death. Assessing stroke volume throughout delivery and postpartum can aid clinicians and midwives in determining blood loss levels so that treatment can take place immediately. Subsequently, treatment effectiveness can be determined by complete hemodynamic monitoring including stroke volume and blood pressure assessment.
